It is no secret that Alkmaar is known for its Friday Cheese Market. It is a fabulous attraction and nearly 170 000 people visited the Cheese Market in 2017. That’s a lot of people! But did you know that there is also a Tuesday evening Cheese Market in July and August?
This is the second year that a Tuesday evening Cheese Market will take place. But unlike last year, this year it will be every Tuesday in July and August from 7pm – 9pm. It’s a great idea and it is well worth visiting on a Tuesday as the market is quieter than on a Friday. It also means that you can spend the day in Alkmaar enjoying this charming Dutch city! Why not check out the unique shops in the Old Town, stop and have a bite to eat at Soepp, head to Suzette Creperie Bar for some poffertjes (little Dutch pancakes) and then snack on some yummy fries from 't Friethuys. Or, just spend some time relaxing and having a drink on the terrace of Gunnery’s Irish Pub. There is no much more to Alkmaar than cheese (although we do really like cheese around these parts!).
