Experience Alkmaar's traditional Cheese Market - the oldest in the Netherlands!  In this 2.5 hour tour you will get to see the famous Cheese Market and watch the cheese being sold, weighed and carried at the historic Waaggebouw (Weighing House).  We will also tour the beautiful medieval city centre and learn about Dutch history, culture and way of life.  Your tour guide not only knows a lot about the Cheese Market and Alkmaar, but also knows lots of interesting and fun facts that will make this an anything but boring tour!

What will you see and do on a tour?

• Visit the Alkmaar Cheese Market and learn about its history, the Weighing House and the Cheese Carrier's Guild.  We will spend approximately +/-1.5 hours at the Cheese Market.

• Taste Dutch cheese and have the opportunity to buy some (subject to availability)

• Walk through the medieval centre, along picturesque streets and canals.

• Learn about Alkmaar's history and how the townspeople managed to defeat the Spanish forces in 1573.

• Get an insight into Dutch culture and way of life through the eyes of a foreigner living in the Netherlands
