Tick another item off your bucket list and see the incredible tulip fields up close in this fun 3.5 hour cycling tour!  Jump on a bike and cycle through the beautiful Dutch countryside and along stunning fields of pure colour.  Tour sizes are kept small so we can go at a pace that is comfortable for everyone.

Distance: +/- 20 kilometres (12.5 miles) over mainly flat terrain

Meeting Point:  In front of the entrance to the Stedelijke Museum Alkmaar

Important Notes:  Dutch law does not require the use of helmets when cycling and they are therefore not available for rent.  If you wish to wear a helmet then you must bring one with you.

​

What to Bring:  Comfortable clothing and shoes that can get muddy and a light snack and drink.  Appropriate rain gear is also recommended.  Your rental bike will have small bags where you can store your belongings. 

​

Rental Bikes:  Bikes are arranged through a local Alkmaar bike hire company at a cost of €15 per day* which you will pay directly to them. *Subject to change.

Tour Description:

After collecting the rental bikes, we will head off into the countryside, staying on dedicated cycle paths as much as possible.   It won’t be long before we enter the bulb growing fields!  Of course, it is not possible to say exactly what we will see on a particular tour as so much of the flower season depends on what the weather has been and how far into the season we are.  However, Alkmaar Tours will monitor the fields prior to your tour to ensure the best route is chosen for your tour date.  You can expect to cycle somewhere around 20km (12.5 miles) with ample time for stopping and taking photos.

Please note that the flower fields are indeed crop fields (just a whole lot more beautiful than a field of corn!) and we need to show respect when viewing the fields. 

​

Cycle tours will have a limited number of participants and are limited to 16 years and older (unless previously arranged with Alkmaar Tours).  If you would like to book a tour with children or with a larger group, then please send us a message! 

 

Cancellation: Tours will not be cancelled because of rain.  Tours will be cancelled should the windspeed reach 30km/h or more.
