Well, it's official. The Cheese Market Season has begun! Today was the first Cheese Market of the year and what a great start! There was quite a large crowd today (likely because the famous Andre van Duin was opening the market) and the sun even made an appearance. Perfect!
It was nice to see some more vendors at the market today and see the local cafes and restaurants busy with people sitting on terraces enjoying the sun and the atmosphere. It was also great to have our friends at the Grachtenrondvaart Alkmaar (Canal Boat Tours) back on the water. I always know what time it is based on when they pass my house. Who needs a clock?
The Alkmaar Cheese Market happens every Friday from 10am - 1pm from the end of March to the end of September. There are also special Tuesday evening Cheese Markets in July and August. Alkmaar's Cheese Market had 169 000 last year and it is defiitely worth seeing when you are in the Netherlands!
